Wood Anderson Seismograph Under Test.
This is a Wood Anderson mount seismpmeter. It consists of a thin vertical wire with the aluminum
rectangle attached like a gate door to the wire. The wire is attached to the frame at
about a foot above and below the aluminum. The aluminum is free to rotate about the
wire in a quake and the wire's torque restores the aluminum to its zero position. The
motion cuts an infrared beam which sends a signal to electronics to correct the
aluminum rectangle's position with a coil and magnet arrangement. The electronics
also controls the damping.
This is work in process. I plan to have two of them facing east-west and north-south.
The final units would be attached to the concrete floor and wall. It will be attached to
an A/D computer along with the above seis. I plan on using Visual Basic for the code.
